Abstract

Craniosynostosis affects one child every 2,500 births, being a rare disease caused by premature closure of cranial sutures. Therefore, it causes inadequate skull growth and prevents neurological development and surgical treatment is the main method of craniosynostosis correction. The planning of procedure allows agility and care with possible complications during the surgery itself. In this sense, the additive manufacturing, besides its low cost and high production speed, it also allows the elaboration of specific skulls models for the conditions of each patient and facilitates the surgical simulation. Three cases of the use of additive manufacturing in the preoperative planning of craniosynostosis correction were presented with the benefits of this approach.
